Obituary for Mr. Mervin Sokolan

Mr. Mervin  Sokolan
Mr. Mervin Sokolan, age 89 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Mervin was born on November 1, 1928 in Rossburn, Manitoba. He came to Port Arthur as a young man, staying with his sister. He began his career working in logging bush camps. Mervin then found employment with Manitoba Wheat Pool, retiring as Superintendent on December 31, 1988 after 40 years of dedicated service.

In 1950 he met and fell in love with Viola Nylund, They were married some years later and had many adventures. After Mervin's retirement they enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing.

Survived by his loving wife, Viola; children Barry (Karen) of Williams Lake, BC, and Rosanne of Kitchener, ON; grandchildren Melissa, Tara, Derek, Kevin, Karena and Parker; great grandchildren Vivie and Max; sister in-law Bertha Nylund and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Predeceased by his daughter Shirley; parents and siblings.

Funeral Services for the late Mr. Mervin Sokolan will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:30am in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma with Fr. Stepan Didur of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Cross officiating. Interment will take place in St. Andrew's Cemetery.
