Mr. Eero (Eric) Olavi Siivonen, age 81 years, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospice on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.

Eero was born on February 1, 1937 in Orimattila, Finland to Helmi and Tauno Olavi Siivonen. In 1951, the family immigrated to Canada, first to Winnipeg and one year later, moving to Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay).

Eero had worked at various jobs throughout his life, the last one being with Manitoba Pool Elevators/Agricore, until his retirement.

In his younger years, Eero was involved in numerous activities. He was one of the founding members of the Reipas Sports Club; a member of Thunder Bay Auto Sports Club; involved in several local car rallies and in two Shell “4000” rallies; ice racing; hunting and fishing.

Eero is survived by his wife of 57 years, Irmeli (nee Manner); sister Tuula (William); nieces Elizabeth and Melissa as well as their families; his father's second wife Helen; in-law niece and nephews Dorothy, Michael, Andrew and their families. In Finland, nephews and niece Olli, Matti, Maija Liisa and their families; cousins and their families along with numerous friends in both countries.

He was predeceased by his parents; sister Liisa; mother-in-law Impi Manner; sister-in-law Kirsti; in-law niece Diana and numerous other relatives in both Finland and Canada.

Funeral Services for the late Mr. Eero Siivonen will be held on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at 1:00 pm in Hilldale Lutheran Church, with Rev. Jari Lahtinen officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma and one hour prior to the service at the church.
