GILBERT DANIEL AGUIAR

Mr. Gilbert Daniel Aguiar, age 86 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2018 in Pinewood Court.

Gilbert was born on June 7, 1932 in Santo Antonio, Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal. As a young man he served in the Portuguese Army prior to immigrating to Canada, eventually settling in Fort William. He met and married the love of his life Diane Martin in 1964. They spent many summers at their camp at Bay's End enjoying friends, family and fishing. Gilbert was employed as Head Finisher at Abitibi Mission Mill retiring in 1993. Tending to his garden and plum trees, swimming at the Complex Pool were some of his favourite pasttimes. He especially loved spending time with his grandsons.

Survived by his daughter, Bonnie; grandsons, Brian and Bradley (Valerie); sisters, Fernanda and Merces; sister in-law, Cathie (Warren) Manning; nieces and nephews, Ilda (Alan), Maria, John (Joannie), Tony (Vicky), Martin (Lisa) and their families.

Predeceased by his wife Diane; son Daniel (infancy), parents Maria and Antonio Aguiar; mother/father-in-law Anne and Thomas Martin, siblings Ilda, Conceicao, Inez, Jaime, Joao, Antonio and Agostinho and son in-law Agostinho Pereira.

A private Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church celebrated by Fr. James Panikulam. Interment followed in Mountainview Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
