Obituary for Mrs. Berta Jessie Yaremko (McGregor)

Mrs. Berta Jessie Yaremko (McGregor)
Berta Yaremko (nee Mc Gregor)

November 8,1922 - July 18, 2018

The family of Mrs. Berta Yaremko announces her passing July 18, 2018 at the age of 95 years. She was born November 8, 1922 in Port Arthur and was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. Her residency in Thunder Bay was punctuated with spending many winters with her husband Harry in Mesa, Arizona.

Berta was from a family of seven sisters each having an identity with the Seven Dwarfs, she being Doc. Mother spoke fondly of her first job at the Rose Marie Tea Room. During the war she was an aircraft riveter at Canada Car & Foundry. She was employed for 28 years in Division Manager roles until her retirement in 1982. She loved the people she met and worked with.

Berta was an active volunteer in the work of helping others. She was the recipient of Air Canada's Heart of Gold Award for Volunteer Service in the Community in 1988. Of the many volunteer activities she participated in, her 15 years as a volunteer answering phones for the Telecare Crisis Line stands out. Berta was a kind, caring and generous person, who will be missed by all of her family and friends.

Her death is deeply mourned by her son Nestor (Sandra) Yaremko; her loving daughter Gail Lehmann; grandsons Rick (Cheryl) and Troy (Dianne); great grandchildren Courtney, Dylon, Gabrielle and Christine; three sisters Christina Mason, Dorothy Brown and Ruth Haskins, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Berta was predeceased by Harry, her husband of 68 years on May 22, 2012; her parents Ellen and Gordon McGregor and three sisters Ellen Shelling, Margaret Labelle and Pat Slattery.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 11:00am in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
