It is with great sadness that we announce Sime (Sam) Bradica passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long illness on May 18, 2018 in his 85th year.

Sam was born in Crno, a village neighbouring the Dalmatian coastal City of Zadar in present day Croatia, to Krsto and Tomasina (nee Bulic). Sam was predeceased by sisters Draga and Marica and brothers Giuseppe, Ivan, Nikola, Aldo and two brothers in infancy. He was also predeceased by his loving mother-in-law Katherine Grmak.

Sam is survived by Victoria (Vicki) (nee Paradi), his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, daughter Marijana Szczepaniak (Artur) and sons John (Karen), William (Anne), Christopher (Crystal), Michael (Shelley), Simon (Stacey). He is also survived by sisters-in-law Maria Bradizza, Ljuba Bradica and Ana Bradica.

Sam was the devoted Dida to thirteen grandchildren who were his constant source of joy and happiness. Cailyn (Darrik Smith), Jacqueline (Jason Stephenson), Spencer, Alexandra, Mitchell, McKenzie, Mathew, Olivia, Kyle, Daniella, Owen, Gabrijela, and Nickolas.

Numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, the United States, and Croatia also survive. He was especially close to Dr. Lou Bradizza, Dr. Clara Bradizza (Dr. Paul Stasiewicz), Dr. Rob Bradizza (Dr. Arawn Therrien), Anita Bradizza and Mary (David) Pither and their children.

Sam arrived in Canada in 1956, starting his career as a master carpenter with Kauzlarick Construction, later working with other construction firms, notably many years with Gateway Building. Sam founded his own contracting company in 1988 and he was a long-time member of the Carpenters & Joiners Union Local 1669. Sam’s strong work ethic and engaging personality will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.

Sam was a long-time member of St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church.

The family offers their profound thanks for the care and kind-heartedness shown by all staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre; The Hemodialysis Unit, Medical Inpatient Units 2A and 2C, the Emergency Department, the superb thoughtfulness and attention of Family Dr. James Reid, Dr. Paul Watson, Dr. K. Hinkkala, retired Family Dr. Peter Bentz, Lift + and Red Cross transportation services staff and Superior North EMS paramedics.

Funeral Services for the late Mr. Sime Bradica will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 with family and friends gathering in St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church (88 Clayte Street) for the Funeral Mass at 11:00am, celebrated by Father Ciaran Donnelly. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. A reception will be held in the Church hall immediately after the Mass. Private family interment will follow in St. Andrew’s Cemetery.

Please no flowers by request. The family encourages those wishing to make a gift in memorium to consider The TBRHSC Hemodialysis Unit or St. Margaret’s Church Renovation Fund.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
