Condolence: My condolences go out to Mr. Brophy's family. I had him as a principal at St. Andrew's School. He was always great to us kids. My memories include him singing for our masses at school the "Our Father" in a way I had never learned before, but to this day will sing it as he once led. May he rest in peace. Joleen

Condolence: Thoughts and prayers are with you and Barry’s closest friends. Barry and I met most often while he walked around the cemetery and I visited family. He’d always say how much he enjoyed the quiet. We’d catch up on news and he’d be on his way with a fond “See you later kiddo”. Back at ya’ my friend

Condolence: I knew Barry through my brother, Bernie,a close friend and fellow principal. Barry accompanied Bernie in visiting me during a dark period of my life, and in hindsight, they were truly angels sent from above. I would meet Barry occasionally when he was volunteering at the Regional, and we always had a good chat. Oh, and that visit? It was 44 years ago. I will miss him. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Lorenzo

Condolence: My sincerest condolences to the family. I write this with a heavy heart - Barry was the best principal my daughters could have had at St. Francis School. They are now 38, 36 and 32 years old - we still speak fondly of "Mr. Brophy" and have some great memories to share. They have already texted me this morning to express their sadness at seeing the obituary (two of them live in Winnipeg now - news travels fast in this day and age). He was truly an excellent principal and friend. My husband Terry was a regular helper at the school, and so Barry called him "Mr. Mom" - they certainly struck up a friendship. My husband passed away in 1995 unexpectedly when the girls were young and Barry was a rock for me - reaching out as a person, a friend, a principal ensuring we had the whole school's support. To that I will forever be grateful. And to say Barry had a sense of humour was an understatement. I loved bumping into Barry in the stores after he was retired - he always gave me a big hug, and took the time to stop and ask about my girls and what they were doing now, and reminisce about "old days" at St. Francis. I'm sure he will meet up with my husband Terry in heaven and they will have a few good laughs. I'm sorry this is so lengthy but I think at a time like this, it's important that the family hears what a good man Barry was. Again, my sincerest sympathy. - From Gerrie and daughters Kara, Melissa and Tanya xo
