BARRY BROPHY

Mr. Barry Brophy, age 74 years passed away peacefully in Hogarth Riverview Manor on Thursday April 26, 2018.

Barry was born in Port Arthur on October 26, 1943 to Joseph and Marie Brophy.

A long time teacher and principal with the Lakehead Separate School Board, he began his career in 1964 as a teacher at St. Theresa’s School, retiring as the first principal of the newly opened Our Lady of Charity School in 1998.
An artistic individual he enjoyed oil painting and his art proudly hangs in many of his family’s homes. He was a member of Lakehead Symphony orchestra choir as well as a volunteer at the Lakehead Regional Health Sciences Center and Canadian Red Cross. His profession was his life and he never married, but he had a large loving family. He was a brother, uncle, great uncle and recently became a great-great uncle to Austyn. His home was the center of activity for family holidays with Barry doing all the cooking. A holiday never went by with out Uncle Barry decorating his home with the theme of the season.

Barry is survived by his sister Jocelyn MacKinnon, nephew Mike MacKinnon, niece Maryn Everett (Randy), nephew Robert Corbett (Susan), nephew Douglas Corbett (Catherine), great nieces Colleen Aiken (Matt), and Jessica Everett (Nathan), great nephew Morgan MacKinnon as well as great nieces Sarah, Kayla, Andrea and Jessica, and great nephew Steven.

Barry was predeceased by his parents as well as his sister Frances Corbett and brothers-in-law John Corbett and Stewart MacKinnon.

Funeral services for the late Barry Brophy will be held on Wednesday May 2, 2018 with family and friends gathering in Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 1:00 pm, celebrated by Father Victor DeGagne. Private family interment will follow in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Barry to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated.
