Obituary for Mrs. Tatiana Zovanyk (Kykot)

Mrs. Tatiana (Tina) Zovanyk of Thunder Bay passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 in Pioneer Ridge.
Tatiana was born in 1924 in the Ukraine to Jakob and Anna Kykotj. Turbulent times found her in Germany as a labourer where she met and married Paul. Paul immigarted to Beardmore in December 1948 to work in the Leitch Gold Mine. Tatiana arrived in August 1949 where she first worked at the Red Cross Hospital for several years and then bush camps. From 1956 to 1963 she and Paul owned and operated the Del Mar Restaurant. In 1965 they moved to Fort William and for a short time Tatiana worked in local restaurants.
As with all immigrants, Tatiana was a hard worker and gardener. She was an intelligent, broad-minded woman and very much a realist. Never a complainer, she accepted life as it was and always had a ready smile for you.
She kept in touch with her family by writing weekly letters to her sister Anastasia and later to her niece Valentina. Two joyous occasions were when Valentina came here for a visit.
Tatiana was predeceased by her husband Paul in 1988, her parents, brother and sister. She is survived by her niece Valentina Shewchenko, nephew Boris Fedorovich and their families in the Ukraine. She will be missed by her good friends Alice and John Reguly and Mary Zuliani.

Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Tatiana Zovanyk will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 11:00am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, celebrated by Father Pawlo Berezniak. Interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time.
Should family and friends desire, donations may be made in memory of Tatiana Zovanyk to St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Orthodox Church or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
